He got a diploma in guitar in 1987 and a second one in Analysis of Music in 1990, both with full marks. He studied with masters like A. Ponce, R. Chiesa and A . Giardino.
Later he attended courses of interpretation of XIX century guitar literature ( more precisely late ‘700 and early ‘800 ) by the Accademia Superiore di Perfezionamento “L’Ottocento” at Vigevano, under the guide of master Claudio Barone.
After that he performed several concerts at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
He plays a nineteenth-century repertoire with an original Torinese guitar dated 1823, made by the maker of string instruments Marengo Rinaldi.
He has won several contests, such as “Città di Bardolino” in 1983,” Città di Genova” in 1989, “ Ansaldi” di Mondovì in 1991, “F. Schubert” di Tagliolo Monferrato in 1992, et., and he has made radio recordings for Radio Nacional de Espana and RAI Radio Tre.
He has also recorded material for the label EDIPAN in Rome.
As a member of Gruppo Cameristico Veneto and of the Mondrian trio ( flute, guitar, cello) he has performed several concerts in Italy and abroad; he has co-operated with Gioventù Musicale d’Italia for quite a long time.
He got interested in the Irish repertori and he has experimented new tunings, called “ open tunings”, this way approaching as much as possibile the sound and the acoustics of the Celtic harp.
He has partecipated to impotant Ed Boyd master class (Flook guitarist).
Piergiorgio Simoni works as a guitar teacher at Primo Istituto “F. Petrarca” and at Istituto Musicale “ Malipiero” in Padua.
